Sunzu to emulate Kalusha

Zambia‘s export to DR Congo Stophila Sunzu says his time has come to emulate Football Association of Zambia(FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya by winning this year’s African Player Award.

Sunzu said that he has worked very hard to helpZambiawin her first AfCON championship in February this year since the tournament started.

Bwalya became the first player from Southern Africa to win AFCON Player of the Year’s award in 1988 at the age of 23 whenZambiabeatItaly4-0 during the Olympics competition.

The FAZ president could have won the award for the second time in 1996 when he was voted best player of the Africa cup finals held inSouth Africa. He was the tournament’s top scorer with five goals and the most adorable player.

Sunzu said that his deciding spot kick againstUgandain the qualifying series for 2013 finals was another moment voters will consider when electing the best player award winner.

Sunzu, a national reliable defender said that he will respect the outcome of results and hoped that his name will top the list of contenders.

He also respected his national team mate Rainford Kalaba who has been shortlisted for the same award.

“If Kalaba wins the award I will not be surprised because he has what it takes to be voted for the award “said Sunzu.

The former FAZ Division Two North Afrisport defender, Sunzu said winning the award will be the best thing to happen to him in his football career.

If he wins, Sunzu will be the first defender inSouthern Africato be crowned player of the year award in the history of African football

FormerSouth   Africanational team defender Luka Radebe came close to be African footballer when he was shortlisted among 20 nominees in 2000.
