OPPOSITION political parties in Zambia have condemned President Michael Sata’s desire to continue abusing the Public Order Act by sending opposition political leaders to prison.
Addressing the press yesterday, UPND president Hakainde Hichilema said that President Sata and the PF government had no respect for the rule of law.
He said that under Mr. Sata’s leadership the country had quickly degenerated away from the principles of democracy and good governance, adding that what the PF had successfully scored was taking opposing views to jail.
Mr. Hichilema said that President Sata was a dictator and totalitarian and brutal leader whose interest was to hold on to power using any dictatorial means.
“You have a brutal leader for a President and not only a brutal leader but a brutal dictator who is now following people at the market buying Ifinkubala, Twalaikala shani nomba? And I am sure that the people of Zambia are now believing what Chanda Chimba said about this dictator, can anyone doubt what Chanda Chimba said?” asked Mr. Hichilema.
He said that Zambia did not belong President Sata alone but belonged to everyone, adding that no one shall run away for fear of being jailed.
“Even those detained in Kamfinsa Prison belong to this country and will stay, how do you take someone to jail for visiting a chief? When did it become an offence to visit chiefs?” he asked.
Mr. Hichilema said that President Sata had failed to govern the country, adding that the PF formed government without a plan on how to take care of the people.
“You have failed this country and now you want to unleash your anger on Dr. Mumba, you want to unleash your anger on HH, you want to unleash your anger on Milupi and everybody. Mr. Sata Sir, you have failed to lead this country, you have failed to deliver jobs you promised to the people of Zambia,” he said.
He said that President Sata and his government were inciting people to be lawless, adding that there was no way the nation and other interested leaders would allow such to happen in the country.
