Voting for Namulambe is supporting corruption

Voting for the PF’s Gabriel Namulambe in the forthcoming parliamentary by-election in Mpongwe will be legalizing corruption and bad governance by the Patriotic Front (PF) government, says MMD die hard national coordinator Bowman Lusambo.

Mr. Lusambo told the Daily Nation that the PF government’s desire to fight corruption was not genuine as it was defeated by the appointment into government of people who were facing corruption related cases before the courts of law.

He said that statements from both the PF leadership and the party on its commitment to fighting corruption was a mockery to the people of Zambia and those committed to fighting the graft.

“We have seen people being acquitted dubiously by those entrusted with the powers to control our judiciary system. We have seen President Sata ordering the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to consult him before any investigations is conducted on his ministers facing corruption allegations. We have seen ACC behaving in an extremely compromised way in the manner they are conducting themselves,” he said.

Mr. Lusambo warned that the MMD would not allow the PF to treat the fights against corruption as a PF agenda to discredit former leaders in the MMD government.

He said that the current situation in the nation was not conducive and would not attract foreign investor confidence because of the way the PF had misrepresented themselves in the fight against graft and other governance related issues.

Mr. Lusambo also expressed disappointment at the failure by the church to guide the PF government on governance issues and the fight against corruption.

“It is disappointing to see the way the church has also become a PF arm of governance. The church has completely failed to criticize the PF government on the levels of corruption and selected justice being implemented under the PF regime. They have decided to go quiet on these matters when it is critical to the governance and continued enjoyment of peace for this nation,” he said.

He said that it was saddening that even Non Governmental Organization (NGOs) that had championed good governance and the corruption fight had abandoned the agenda.

“This country does not belong to few individuals but to all of us. That is why we feel that the PF government under the leadership of Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata is failing us, he has failed the people of Zambia. No confidence in his leadership yet we have the church and NGOs hiding and busy jumping to talk about the immunity of RB. We shall not allow a situation where we waste time and resources on issues that won’t benefit the country. It is better we start with President Sata and end with any other person,” he said.
