Basketball chief cries for sponsoship

Zambia Basketball League president Boniface Kambikambi has called on the corporate world to come on board to sponsor the basketball leagues in the country.
Mr Kambikambi said for last three years it was not easy to run and maintain the leagues without sponsorship and urged sponsors to support the 2013 season which resumed on January 12, 2013.
He said that sponsors will help clubs and provincial leagues to produce more players every year because Basketballers will be encouraged to work hard.
Kambikambi said that the financial constraints have contributed to standard of sport which has gone down.
He said that it was every team‘s desire to compete and win the trophies and prize money each time they are crowned champions at any level.
Kambikambi noted that the same problem has affected most minor sports in the country because there no sponsor to appreciate the effort which they put in throughout the season.
He said that Basketball league runs between January and December with teams covering long distances every weekend to fulfil their fixtures.
Kambikambi said that Zambia has an abundance of talent in the country which needs properly funded talent identification programme in provincials leagues and schools.
