Ministers face contempt proceedings

Two ministers may be cited for contempt for accusing Mazabuka MP Garry Nkombo of murdering the late PF Southern Provincial official Harrison Chanda. Livingstone Magistrate Chola Musonda has ordered Mr Nkombo’s defense counsel to begin proceedings in preparing the charges for contempt against Western Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta and Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo. Defense counsel Jack Mwiimbu representing the eight UPND members including Mr. Nkombo who are charged with murder were ordered to prepare the case against the two ministers. Magistrate Musonda said that comments should be investigated to establish whether the duo’s statements were made when the case was before court or not. This was in a matter in which Mr Mwiimbi of Mwiimbu Mulaza and Company of Lusaka made an application last week to cite Mwaliteta and Masebo for commenting on an issue which was before court. Last week, Mr. Mwaliteta and Ms. Masebo allegedly commented on the matter where Mr. Nkombo was accused of having murdered Chanda when the matter was already before courts o law.But the prosecution led by Lawrence Mudenda argued that the duo made the comments outside court because the accused was not properly charged before the court.
