The two ministers and immigration officers who blocked the former republican president Mr Rupiah Banda from flying to Kenya for the inauguration of President Uhuru Kenyatta on April 9 have finally been subpoenaed and will appear in the magistrates’ court on July 4 for contempt proceedings against them.
One of Mr Banda’s lawyers Mr Sakwiba Sikota confirmed the summoning of the four to the Daily Nation yesterday.
Those subpoenaed are Information Deputy Minister Mwansa Kapeya, his Home Affairs counterpart Steve Kampyongo. Others summoned are Chief Immigration Officer Malumo Milimo, and Immigration officer Seta.
Mr Banda wants the four contemnors sent to prison for contempt of court after they purposely and deliberately disobeyed a court order that allowed him to travel to Kenya on April 9 when they prevented him from boarding an aircraft for Nairobi at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
