Lameck Mangani in limbo

Lameck Mangani will have to re-apply to be considered for the adoption if he wants to re-contest on the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), says deputy party secretary general Bridget Attanga.
But Mr. Mangani says he is saddened by increased electoral malpractices in the Patriotic Front (PF)  as already some officials have started sinking boreholes, slaughtering animals and dishing out money before the party announces the day for adoption.
He said that it would be fair for the Party to consider him for the by-election because it was him who successfully petitioned the seat which was nullified on Monday.
Commenting on the successful appeal in the Supreme Court to nullify MMD’s Chipata Central seat won by Mtolo Phiri in 2012, Mrs. Attanga said that all those that wanted to be considered should apply including Mr. Mangani.
Ms. Attanga said that the people of Chipata Central within the PF structures would make known the person they want to represent them on the PF ticket.
“It is not a smooth path way for anyone. As a party we shall wait for our structures to make their submissions to the party on who should be adopted. You now know that the PF has a system which we use to adopt our candidates.
“ The Central Committee only endorses what the lower structures of the party have proposed. So even for Mr. Mangani he has to re-apply if he wants to be considered for adoption and that is the process we shall follow as a party,” she said.
Ms. Attanga said that the PF party was democratic and allowed its members at various party structures to participate in the governance of the party and the country.
But Mr. Mangani has urged party members to realize that he petitioned the seat won by Mr Phiri not out of hate or malice but to change the way of doing politics.
He said that Zambians and all stakeholders should desist from electoral malpractices, adding that he was surprised that what he had fought for in the courts of law through the petition was something taking part in the PF.
“My colleagues in the PF wishing to contest the Chipata Central Constituency seat should realize that I decided to petition the seat because of corruption but it is surprising that some people wishing to re-contest the seat on the PF are the ones now that are sinking boreholes, slaughtering animals and dishing out monies,” he said.
