Divisions have rocked the Patriotic Front (PF) in Mufulira district where some senior party members have risen against the party leadership and want to replace the district chairman John Katati with a civil servant who is a clinical officer at Ronald Ross Hospital.
The party members are demanding for elections so that Mr Katati can be replaced by a clinical officer who was carrying out a serious campaign to ensure that he scoops the position of party district chairman if district party elections are held.
But, some PF officials are disappointed that the ruling party was allowing civil servants to engage in partisan politics and aspire for certain positions like district party chairman, when it was against the idea whilst in the opposition.
PF District chairman John Katati confirmed that he had received reports that some people, among them, two civil servants were aspiring for his position and had intensified their campaigns.
Mr Katati said he was aware that some indisciplined party officials had formed parallel structures with the aim of removing his executive from office, but warned that those people would be disciplined.
“Yes, I have received reports about two civil servants aspiring for my position. They are actually part of the parallel structure which has been formed to remove my executive from the office, but let me hasten to say that whoever is in this parallel structure will be disciplined.
“He or she will be disciplined because PF does not tolerate factions in the party,” Mr Katati said.
