One party state on the horizon-Saunders

Zambians should not be surprised if they wake up one day  to find that Zambia had been declared a one party state’, says political activist Dante Saunders.

Mr Saunders said he was concerned with the PF government’s continued inconsistency on various national matters affecting citizens.

He observed that most of the issues the PF government was engaged in were being carried out without consulting various stakeholders including the electorates who voted them into power.

Mr Saunders explained that the continued protests that have rocked the country were a source of worry and needed immediate government intervention and wondered why there was silence on the part of the government.

“I don’t know why this government has been inconsistent from the time it assumed office. Government officials do things anyhow and whenever they want to. We should not be surprised to hear that was now a one party state,” he said.

Mr Saunders argued that there was no way PF government could run the country without considering the plight of majority poor people.

He said that the PF government has spent too much money from the treasury on unplanned and unbudgeted programmes such as induced by elections which has forced the PF to remove fuel and maize subsidies in order to raise funds.

He urged the opposition political leaders to be observant because the PF government wanted to ensure that they failed in their resolve to offer checks and balances to the PF government.

He further urged them to send their MPs memos asking them not to resign from their positions to join the ruling party so as to avoid calling for unnecessary by elections.
