Dora’s popularity scares PF

The Patriotic Front (PF) is scared of losing the Petauke and Malambo Parliamentary by elections and has launched a scheme meant to block Dora Siliya and Maxwell Mwale from re-contesting their seats.

Opposition UPND and MMD are aware of the scheme by the PF  government to block its candidates from re-contesting the Malambo and Petauke Central parliamentary by-elections next month through court injunctions, says UPND senior official  Douglas Syakalima.

Mr. Syakalima said the attack on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) by Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba and Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) executive director Goodwell Lungu was an attempt to cow the commission into submission and to block MMD possible candidate for Petauke Central Dora Siliya and UPND’s Maxwell Mwale for Malambo.

He said that the PF together with its corrupt allies were still in shock after the loss of Chipata Central, Kafulafuta and Solwezi East seats to the opposition and wanted to bend the law to suit them by blocking Ms. Siliya and  Mr. Mwale who were strong candidates in their areas.

Mr. Syakalima said that it was highly contemptuous for both Mr. Kabimba and Mr Lungu to suggest that ECZ had erred by not stopping former MMD Petauke Central MP Dora Siliya and her counterpart for Malambo, Maxwell Mwale, from contesting the seats on allegations of corruption.

He said that the PF was a vengeful party that always wanted to fight people it hated, adding that both parties were aware and would protect the interests of the people by ensuring that they defended democracy.

Mr. Syakalima said that Mr. Kabimba was aware that the PF did not have a strong candidate to contest or challenge Ms. Siliya and Mr. Mwale if both re-contested on their party tickets respectively.

“We know that the PF is scared of Ms. Siliya in Petauke Central, they know that they have lost that seat before the election. They know that in Malambo they have already lost to Maxwell Mwale because the party has made itself weak and irrelevant to the people of Zambia,

“And for that the PF is  scheming to block the participation of Ms. Siliya and Mr. Mwale through a court injunction. They have weak candidates and therefore feel that if they allow the two possible candidates for MMD and UPND they will lose the two elections,” said Mr. Syakalima.

He said that the PF had introduced a backward system to fix political opponents even when the law was clear on how to deal with such matters.

Mr. Syakalima warned that Zambians were closely following the degenerating political events caused by the PF and would not be part of a team auctioning the country’s democracy by hook or crook.

Mr. Kabimba informed the nation on Saturday during MUVI TV ‘Assignment’ programme that he had instructed the party lawyers handling the petition for Petauke Central and Malambo to ensure that they collected the report on the judgment and hand it over to the Anti-Corruption Commission, Police and other security wings   for possible prosecutions of Ms. Siliya and Mr. Mwale.

Mr. Syakalima said that ECZ had made its position over the matter clear and it was only fair if the PF and its supporters listened to the advice by ECZ.

“PF thought it will be an easy task after the nullification of seats. But they have seen that it is difficult for them to win an election because of their poor governance record 22 months into government,

“ Zambians are already tired of the PF and want a government which will respond to their needs and treat them like human beings,” said Mr. Syakalima.
