LAZ attacks annoy Chipimo

Attacks targeted at the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and it’s president, James Banda are unfair and unjustified because the organization was offering guiding light in the profession especially at this time when there are a lot of controversial hearings in the Courts of Law.

National Restoration Party (NAREP) president Elias Chipimo said the assault directed especially at LAZ president were unwarranted and unacceptable because as a body, his position was to express the view of the profession and not of his person.

Chipimo said it was clearly said that politicians wanted to control the institutions of governance in the country, and therefore was there was need for impartial and professional guidance which LAZ was providing.

“There was a deliberate attempt by the politicians to muddy issues and create confusion within the legal and judiciary spheres in order to gain ascendancy and that it was important that LAZ should provide professional guidelines regardless of the subjective perception that interested parties may have,” Mr Chipimo said.

PF Lusaka province chairman Geoffrey Chumbwe has attacked LAZ and Mr. Banda on the position taken against the continued stay in office of acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda  whom they have accused of compromising the integrity and credibility of the Judiciary in Zambia.
