The Catholic Church in Zambia must strive to attain self sustenance because of the dwindling resources from donors and well wishers, Arch Bishop Telesphore Mpundu has said.
Speaking at a fund raising Breakfast for the Cathedral of the Child Jesus held at Suwilanji Gardens yesterday, the Archbishop said that Zambia was not short of Christians with talent and ability to ensure that the church achieved self sustenance.
“We must take our rightful place among nations by supporting our local church achieves its great mission of evangelism. We have the expertise to bear upon the work of the church” He told the gathering.
The Archbishop called for good stewardship, transparency and accountability in the manner resources were used, “This will encourage contributions from the ordinary worshippers who will see the use to which money they contribute is put.” He said.
The Breakfast which raised K16, 000 in pledges is an effort towards raising K1.3million for the construction of a pastoral centre at the Pope Square.
Speaking earlier former Governor of the Bank of Zambia Dr. Caleb Fundanga extolled the virtue and culture of individual giving which, he said, encouraged responsibility and ownership.
