Hakainde Hichilema has said that Vice-President Guy Scott and PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba have been peddling information about the corruption in Cabinet and has challenged President Michael Sata to allow the Anti Corruption Commission to immediately institute investigations against thoe ministers involved in graft.
The UPND leader has said Dr Scott and Kabimba have publicly admitted that there were some cabinet ministers in the PF government that were allegedly engaged in corruption and should therefore help the ACC with binvestigations.
And the UPND has called for an end to a culture of witch-hunting, victimisation and humiliation of former presidents saying the syndrome was negating the democratic and economic gains of the country.
Meanwhile, former deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mutale Nalumango has called for the impeachment of President Michael Sata over what she said was the President’s propensity to breach the constitution which he had sworn to defend and protect.
Addressing a mammoth rally in Mandevu yesterday, Hichilema said the PF government should with immediate effect stop harassing former president Rupiah Banda.
Hichilema said the UPND in government would not embark on the political trajectory of victimising the leaders in the PF government but would concentrate on rebuilding the economy of the country which he said had been extensively damaged in the two years the PF had been in government.
He said President Sata should not be worried about his life after retirement because the UPND would not want to continue hunting former leaders saying the culture had created a lot of hatred among citizens.
The UPND leader said Zambia needed healing because there was so much resentment among citizens as a result of the hatred the PF was using to govern.
“When the UPND forms government in 2016, let President Sata not worry because we shall not arrest or victimise him the way he has done with president Banda. We want to break the culture of victimising former presidents in this country because the culture has only helped to create hatred among citizens. We will have a lot of work rebuilding this country and there will be no need to arrest Sata. I am calling on the PF leadership to stop harassing president Banda. Let the man rest,” Hichilema said.
Hichilema said the cost of living under the PF government had become high because of the poor leadership saying many Zambians were failing to meet their basic needs while those in government were allegedly deepening their pockets.
He said the UPND once in government would reintroduce subsidies because there was no country in the world that did not have subsidies meant to cushion the suffering of the majority poor.
He said has said the PF government had lamentably failed to govern the country and that Zambia needed a change that would vigorously and truthfully create employment for a mass of qualified youths roaming and vending in the streets.
And UPND vice-president for political affairs Canicious Banda said President Ssta’s cabinet was predominantly composed of Bembas and that the wrangles in the ruling party were as a result of tribalism.
Dr Banda said the PF had continued to lie to Zambians saying the 200 percent increase promised to civil servant had turned out to be a mockery of a four percent salary increase.
Meanwhile former deputy speaker of the National Assembly Mutale Nalumango said President Sata had committed several impeachable offences and that if Zambians were a serious country, the head of state would have been impeached.
Nalumango said the PF had remained a violent political party and that it was surprising that President Sata had decided not to deal with the vice that has seen several citizens harassed and beaten by the cadres.
