President Michael Sata has brought insecurity and tension in the Bemba land by attempting to dethrone the recently enthroned Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people of Northern Province, says MMD president Nevers Mumba.
Dr. Mumba in his statement told the Daily Nation that the PF and President Sata in particular have chosen to bring insecurity and tension in Bemba land by their attempts to dethrone the recently enthroned Paramount Chief Chitimukulu.
Dr. Mumba said that the MMD respected and recognized the traditional leadership because it played an important role to various development processes.
“Our position has been to respect royal establishments in the country and their decisions in as far as their traditional values and choices are concerned. We are shocked at the unorthodox manner the PF wishes to interfere with the decision the Shi Lubembas have made of choosing Mr. Henry Kanyanta Sosala as Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba speaking people,” said Dr. Mumba.
The opposition leader has since urged Zambians to condemn attempts by the PF to usurp traditional powers to the detriment of respect for traditional authority.
“We condemn the unwarranted deployment of security forces to Paramount Chief Chitimukulu’s palace. We demand that the police be withdrawn immediately as these actions will only antagonize the Bemba speaking people.
Dr. Mumba has also advised President Sata to look back and see how many political leaders in history have managed to win such wars against traditional leaders.
He said that President Sata must realize that there was nothing that he could change because the traditional set up existed before human government or political parties t hat end up forming government.
