The opposition has suffered another setback after the Supreme Court yesterday nullified the election of Solwezi Central constituency MP Luck Mulusa on account of corruption.
Mulusa has been a stern critic of the Patriotic Front government both in and outside Parliament and has taken government to task over the Trafigura oil scandal to which the Minister of Justice Wynter Kabimba who is PF secretary general had been linked.
Mulusa has also dragged the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito before the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) disciplinary committee for having misled the Parliamentary select committee when he was seeking the job of the DPP.
He is also among the 28 citizens who have petitioned Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini and Minister of Finance Alexander Chikwanda to immediately order Nchito and Fred M’membe to pay back the K38 billion loan from the Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ).
Justice Florence Mumba said Mulusa had made a K 1,000 church offering to an Evangelical Church in Solwezi during the campaign period for the 2011 general elections.
She said Mr Mulusa’s further actions of asking the congregants to vote for him amounts to corruption.
Justice Mumba also stated that Mulusa made another donation of K 100 to another church in Solwezi and promised to buy musical equipment for the church after the elections.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the judgement, Mulusa said he had accepted the court verdict
