Luapula MMD not for convention

MMD Luapula chairman Malama Chipolyo has refuted assertions that Luapula was one of the Provinces that had petitioned national executive committee to call for an impromptu convention to elect the new leadership of the former ruling party.

Mr Chipolyo told the Sunday Nation that the senior members who were causing confusion in the party must leave if they were tired and unhappy of the current MMD leadership.

He said that it was disappointing that the people who were supposed to rejuvenate the MMD so that it could bounce back to power in 2016 were the ones who were creating confusion. Mr Chipolyo said it was not fair that senior leaders had resorted to blackmail adding that the party was once in power and should have been providing checks and balances to the current government, instead of fighting itself.

He wondered why the members of the party did not bring out the challenges during the NEC meetings which had mandate to resolve such matters.

He said that the people of Luapula were in support of Dr Mumba adding that those calling for his impeachment did not following the procedure of soliciting for the petitions. “We cannot continue to fight each other publicly and yet the NEC meeting is on today where they can resolve all these problems. It is not true that Luapula want Dr Mumba out. In fact those people who are saying Luapula is in support just want to mislead the nation,” Mr Chipolyo said.

Mr Chibolya said that what the MMD must realize that it was the party that brought democracy in the country and letting the party die in the hands of the selfish people was not to the best interest of the membership.
