Veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga says the abduction of over 200 school girls in Nigeria by Islamic fundamentalists Boko Haram is shameful and an assault on humanity.
Mr. Mwaanga a former diplomat said that the abduction of over 200 school girls from Chibok village, in Borno State of Northeastern Nigeria last month was a dishonorable act.
He said that it was only prudent for African nations to condemn the act by Boko Haram as it did not deserve existence.
“The abduction of over 200 secondary school girls in the Village of Chibok, in Borno State of Northeastern Nigeria on 14th April, and eight more later last weekend by the same group is a dastardly act and an assault on our common humanity which deserves universal condemnation by all civilized people all over the world,” said Mr. Mwaanga.
He explained that Boko Haram was a fundamentalist extremist Islamist organisation which has had a long history of killing and kidnapping innocent people.
Mr. Mwaanga said that the act by Boko Haram was evil, “It is as evil as the old Lord’s Resistance Army of Joseph Koni, a Christian fundamentalist movement which was engaged in similar crimes in Uganda.
“What have these innocent school going children got to do with whatever grievances Boko Haram may have against the Nigerian government? All civilized nations and people must reject being part of the culture of silence on this matter of our common humanity.” He said
