UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has thanked the Barotse Royal Establishment and the people of Mongu in general for rescuing him when Police blocked his entourage during his recent trip to Western Province.
Mr Hichilema said it was sad that there was no law and order in the Police Service when the institution is supposed to lead by example.
He said that his moment under the police’s physical abuse was the first worst experience but vowed that he would not stop to work for Zambians.
Mr Hichilema wondered who was instructing Police officers to break the law with impunity by harassing innocent citizens who were exercising their freedom of expression.
He said had it not been for instructions from the Lozi king, who ordered the Indunas to stop the police brutality, he would be have suffered serious harm under the hands of the cruel police.
“We are wondering who is sending these police officers to behave in such a manner, and sometimes you may ask whether it is the Home Affairs ministry but at the end of the day it goes to Mr Sata who is the Head of state,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said the police must stop carrying guns to intimidate citizens because that was against the laws of Zambia.
He said the Police should feel ashamed to be used by the PF government to break the law with impunity.
“How can you say you are enforcing law when you are the first ones breaking it, and then you go on and say the police were just conducting their normal routine operations of maintaining law and order,” Mr Hichilema said.
On Monday the Litunga had to instruct the BRE Indunas to move into action and order Zambia Police officers who had blocked the UPND leader to leave Mr. Hichilema and his entourage alone.
And Mr Hichilema said his meeting with the BRE officials was fruitful because it was another institution on its own.
