Zambia needs an ardent economic think tank -NAREP

The government must constitute a team of professionals with the prowess to manage the economy of the country, says National Restoration Party secretary general Jevan Kamanga.

Mr Kamanga observed the economy of the country was not well managed and it was for that reason it was going down.

“Ever since the PF government took office, the economy of the country has been going down to an extent where it is now non-performing due to lack of professionals to handle it competently,” he said.

Mr Kamanga said the Kwacha had been weakening to an extent where the Zambian currency at one time became the weakest in the world.

He also said that the cost of doing business was high for both Zambians and foreign investors.

“The solution to this problem is for government to swallow its pride and constitute a team of professionals like Mr  Ng’andu Magande, Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, Dr  Caleb Fundanga and any Zambian with the prowess to manage the economy of the country,” he said.

“The Bank of Zambia governor, who is a qualified lawyer, is found in strange territories trying to balance books while the minister of finance who was using a 4 X 4 calculator in 1973 is now trying to balance and expend the national budget and has to cope up with 21st Century state of the art dynamic systems and technology,” he said.

Mr Kamanga said there was still doubt that the economy would be stable now, looking at the pace Zambia was moving, adding that it was only through engaging experts who help prop up the economy

“The cost of living in Zambia has really gone up and something has to be done to eradicate poverty in the country,” he said

Mr Kamanga said he could not understand why Zambia had expensive fuels compared to her neighbouring countries.

“We need to task professionals to chart the vibrant economic path as well as putting measures like reducing the bloated government, and reducing expenditure to help mend our ailing economy,” he said.
