The Lusaka Magistrates’ court yesterday rejected a bail application by a 38-year-old man of Lusaka’s Bauleni compound who is facing two counts of unlawful hunting,
Magistrate Obster Musukwa rejected the application by Enock Phiri because he had no fixed abode.
Mr.Musukwa however advised Phiri to apply for a bail at the next hearing provided that he gives court his residential address.
He said it was difficult for him to grant Phiri bail because if he escaped it would be hard for the court to trace him.
In count one it is alleged that Phiri on June 16 was found with wire snares in an open area near the Lusaka National Airport without a licence from the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA).
In count two Phiri is alleged to have been found hunting using wire snares near the Lusaka National Park without a licence from ZAWA contrary to section 67 of the Zambia Wide life Act No.12 of the laws of Zambia.
The matter comes up of July 24 for trial. Phiri was remanded in custody.
