Former Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Edward Mumbi has charged that the ruling party has been hijacked by some selfish senior party officials whose conduct has clearly shown that they are in the party waiting to take over the presidency.
Mr Mumbi has explained that there were many things that party escalated to a point where the Head of State.
President Sata promised Zam- bians but not even half had been achieved because the Head of State had been held captive by some senior leaders who were wishing him ill with the desire to take over power at all costs.
Mr Mumbi said the revela- tions by former Defence Minis- ter Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba that some senior PF leaders were wishing President Michael Sata ill was true and could be au- thenticated by the manner some leaders behaved when the Head of State travelled to Tel Aviv in Israel for a working holiday.
Mr Mumbi who is also for- mer special assistant to United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichil- emasaidthepowerstrugglethat emerged in PF while President Sata was in Israel was an indica- tion that some senior PF leaders had positioned themselves to take over the leadership of the ruling party.
He told the Daily Nation yesterday that it was shocking that while President Sata was away in Tel Aviv, the power struggle by some leaders in the ruling
Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata was disqualified as being ineligible to stand as president.
“For those who do not know or came into the party after it formed government, Mr Mwam- ba is the one saved the PF from dying by donating his entire personal complex and lost a lot of money in the process. None of those fighting for power now in the PF and causing President Sata anguish was available. It is therefore important for all genuine members of the PF not to trivialize and demonise Mr Mwamba,” Mr Mumbi said.
He said while the nation was worried about speculations and innuendoes that surrounded President Sata’s trip to Israel, some senior PF leaders were scheming to take over the lead- ership of the ruling party.
Mr Mumbi said revelations by Mr Mwamba popularly known as GBM could not be disputed because it was clear that the peo- ple surrounding President Sata did not believe in his vision for which the PF was formed and over which Zambians voted for
Mr Mumbi recalled that Mr Mwamba sacrificed a lot for the PF by donating his entire build- ing complex along Luanshya Road after the ruling party va- cated its farmers House prem- ises because of high rentals.
He stated Mr Mwamba had housed the PF at his premises at no cost until the party formed government in 2011 because of the love and passion he had for the party and president Sata.
Mr Mumbi said Mr Mwamba started financing the PF when he (Mumbi) was the secretary gen- eral of the party and that those demonizing and slandering the Kasama MP were not there when the ruling party was struggling.
“The statement by Mr Mwam- ba popularly known as GBM that some senior PF leaders are wishing President Sata ill is true going by the recent conduct of some people when President Sata travelled to Israel. The pow- er struggle that erupted in the PF went as far as disqualifying President Sata’s son Mulenga as being ineligible to legally stand as president.
