Zanaco in a tricky fixture

AFTER being denied space in the Barclays Cup semi- finals at the hands of Sharp Konkola Blades last week, FAZ-MTN super league leaders Zanaco today face a new challenge as they face unpredictable Indeni Football Club in a Week 24 fixture.

Zanaco will have to reorganize themselves to avoid being embarrassed by a team described as a nonentity in Zambian football.

Coach Aggrey Chiyangi need not to be reminded about the task ahead of the team that in the next six weeks Zanaco might be crowned the 2014 FAZ-MTN champions if they do not lose  points.

If all was to go by the first meeting on the 14th May, 2014, then Zanaco goes into this game a winner after the 4-0 bashing at Sunset Stadium, a result which saw them go up to lead the park.

However, it  is different this time. Something unusual has happened. One of the key players that scored in that game is no longer with the team – Isaac Chansa.

Chansa scored the opener in the 20th minute before Roderick Kabwe made it to 2-0 before the break.

On resumption  Matthews Macha in the 50th minute of the game registered a third goal before Chansa wound up the scoreline to make it 4-0 in favour of Zanaco.

However, Chiyangi says that the Indeni game in Ndola is a different ball game, and for him history will not count as Indeni was a good side too.

“This is a crucial time in soccer because all teams don’t want to lose points; they cannot just lose points like that. Especially for Indeni who want to move out of the relegation zone; so this will be a tough game,” said Chiyangi.

Seating uncomfortably on 13th on the log and in the relegation zone with 23 points after playing 23 games, Indeni will have more to lose if they allow the  league leaders  to win the game when they have a chance to correct the mistakes at this last moment to remain in the elite league.

Indeni has to win the game in order to move up on the log and beat the relegation zone, but they still need to pray that Green Buffaloes lose or draw against Sharp Konkola Blades who seem to have found winning ways.

This will be another interesting game which will also see Honor Janza take time to look at his new call-up for national duty, Humphrey Maseneko.

Pressure will be on Maseneko for Blades who has attracted interesting minds in football, with Janza still not convinced that he is the man he wants for that most difficult jersey – number 9 – for goals.

Another mouth-watering game will be second-placed Power Dynamos at Arthur Davis Stadium in Kitwe against the George Kapembwa boys National Assembly.

Power’s vision and ambitions are well known – to represent the country in the Confederations [Caf] cup next season.

After being kicked out from the Barclays Cup by Nkana on a 2-nil scoreline, Tenant Chilumba will have no choice but to use his talismen Alex Ngonga, Kennedy Mudenda and Jimmy Ndhlovu for the much needed goals.

Chilumba has instructed his boys not to leave anything unattended to within the 90 minutes of playing against National Assembly. Having accumulated 46 points after playing 23 games, Power will have no choice but to look forward to winning the game and hoping that Indeni does it against Zanaco in Ndola.

The rest of the games to be played this afternoon are as follows; Indeni hosts Zanaco, while Zesco United awaits Green Eagles of Choma both games at Levy Mwanawasa in Ndola.
