THE Patriotic Front (PF) government has exhibited the worst form of governance deception and its leadership will not blame Zambians if they are voted out of government in 2016, the Grand Coalition on the Constitution has charged.
Grand Coalition on the Constitution chairperson Leonard Chiti said the coalition was extremely disappointed with President Michael Sata’s speech when he opened the fourth session of the 11th National Assembly that merely glossed over the Constitution-making process.
Fr Chiti said the PF and its leadership were digging their own political grave by ignoring and deliberately frustrating the Constitution-making process.
He said following the inability by President Sata to give a clear direction and guidance on the Constitution-making process, it had become evident that the PF was a government that should never be trusted with the governance of the country beyond 2016.
“We are extremely disappointed with President Sata’s speech when he opened the fourth session of the 11th National Assembly on Friday. None of the issues we raised before his address have been tackled but we want to repeat our message that the PF was elected on the premise of enacting a people-driven constitution within 90 days.
But yesterday, President Sata merely glossed over the Constitution-making process and as the Grand Coalition, we are committing ourselves to embark on a crusade to expose their lies and they should not blame us if we have a new government in 2016,” Fr Chiti said.
He said the coalition would soon embark on a country-wide sensitization campaign to remind Zambians about the failed promises of the PF government and why the ruling party should not be given a second mandate to continue presiding over the affairs of the country.
He said the coalition was utterly shocked that President Sata’s speech only contained few and unelaborate paragraphs on the Constitution-making process, confirming that the enactment of the new law was not a priority of the PF government.
Fr Chiti said the PF government was elected on the premise of facilitating the smooth enactment of a people-driven constitution and that since the ruling party had changed its goal posts, the coalition was committing itself to embark on a crusade to expose the lies of the PF government.
He explained that it was evident that President Sata did not believe in what he promised Zambians during his campaigns to become the leader of the country and that Zambians had no reason to redeposit their trust in a government with failed promises.
