PATRIOTIC Front (PF) cadres suspected of being supporters of dismissed PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba were yesterday beaten up in Livingstone as intra-party violence exploded in the council chamber.
Newly appointed PF party secretary general Edgar Lungu, PF Southern Province chairman Daniel Munkombwe and Livingstone Member of Parliament Lawrence Evans were present as the cadres fought.
State police were called to calm the situation after cadres believed to be sympathizers of Mr Kabimba were punched. Others were chased from the meeting while Mr Munkombwe was booed as he is suspected of belonging to the Wynter Kabimba camp.
Mr Evans could not hide his emotions and wept uncontrollably.
Mr Lungu was forced to cancel the meeting prematurely.
This is not the first time that PF cadres have fought each other.
Last year, a PF cadre, Moses Simweulu, was killed in intra party clashes near the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
