Nkana faces Konkola Blades in Barclays Cup

NKANA Football Club have been paired with “sharp” Konkola Blades in the semi finals of the 2014 Barclays cup slated for next weekend at Arthur Davies Stadium.

And Zesco United face National Pension Scheme Authority sponsored side NAPSA Stars in the other semis of the same tournament.

The winners between the two clashes will battle it out in the final for K250, 000 as the runners up get K150, 000 on November 22, 2014 at a venue to be announced.

Speaking during the draws in Lusaka yesterday, FAZ vice president Boniface Mwamelo said the semi finals would be given an extra boost because of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations which culminates on October 24.

“We are very grateful and happy as Football Association to be associated with Barclays Bank in promoting football in the country,” he said. “We would also like to thank MultiChoice Zambia for their support in marketing the tournament,” he said.

Mwamelo said MultiChoice had driven the marketing of the tournament according to FAZ’s expectations.

And MultiChoice Africa regional marketing manager Marlon Kananda announced that the Barclays Cup would be beamed live on Super Sport 9. “We would like to confirm that we shall beam live the semi finals of the Barclays Cup,” he said.

Kananda said MultiChoice would also carry live the Chipolopolo Afcon qualifier game in Niger on Saturday. “We shall also beam live the women’s national soccer team game against Namibia. It will be a packed weekend for us as MultiChoice,” he said. Kananda donated two PVR decoders to FAZ with a free one-year subscription worth K20, 000.

“One decoder is for the FAZ technical centre while the other one will remain at Football House in order to enable management to record some games for record keeping,” he said.

Zesco thumped division one giants Mufulira Wanderers 2-0 and NAPSA defeated division one side Lusaka Dynamos to secure a place in the semi finals at Nkoloma stadium.

Meanwhile Konkola and Nkana evicted Zanaco and Power Dynamos respectively to pull through to the semi finals.
