THE United Party for National Development (UPND) says it has learnt of the death of President Michael Sata with a deep sense of sorrow.
UPND president Hakainde Hichilema said his party was appealing to Zambians and the nation to be calm and peacefulduring the difficult period the country was going through. “I want to mourn the late President Michael Sata and remember the contribution he made to our country and the people in general.
‘‘While this is a time for national mourning, it is also a time to remember a man who dedicated his life to serve our country and the people,”
Mr Hichilema said although his party did not agree with President Sata on policy issues, the Head of State provided an example which brought motivation to many Zambians.
Mr Hichilema said the strength of character President Sata exhibited in fighting battles was testament to the strength of the man who was never afraid to take difficult decisions or of the consequences of the same actions.
“Uncertainty has engulfed us and while we are currently feeling the dark shadows of the long night, we are hopeful that we will wake up together in a new dawn,” Mr Hichilema said.
