RB counsels acting President

ACTING President Guy Scott should seek God’s hand as he leads Zambia following the demise of President Michael Sata, former President Rupiah Banda has advised.

Mr Banda said leading a country at such a time calls for patience and wisdom, which was why divine guidance was always important.

He said he understood the challenges of presiding over a country after the death of a sitting Head of State, having acted when Zambia’s third President Levy Mwanawasa died in August 2008.

“I wish to encourage you to seek God’s guidance as you discharge your functions as our acting President because the enormity of the task ahead of you is one that requires patience and wisdom,” he said.

The former President said he had no reason to doubt Dr Scott’s ability to remain steadfast and resilient as he led Zambians in mourning the departed Head of State and preparing the nation for elections.

Mr Banda asked Dr Scott to convey his condolences to the Government and the Central Committee of the Patriotic Front.

“On behalf of my wife, Thandiwe, and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to express my sorrow over the death of our President, His Excellency, Mr Michael Chilufya Sata,” Mr Banda said.
