PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Secretary-General Edgar Lungu has directed that the Central Committee meeting scheduled for today will go ahead despite Acting President Guy Scott having unilaterally cancelled the meeting for undisclosed reasons.
Yesterday morning, Dr Scott announced the cancellation of a scheduled central committee meeting which was among other things expected to discuss the death of President Sata and the selection of his successor.
Mr Lungu said in a statement issued last night, that as secretary general of the PF, he was the chief administrative officer of the ruling party apart from being secretary to the central committee, the national council and the general conference and was mandated to convene party meetings.
“You should note that your unilateral directive to cancel a legally constituted meeting is null and void as those directives are outside the provisions of the party constitution. As a member of the Patriotic Front, you are expected to operate within the provisions of the constitution. I therefore ask you to desist from operating outside the constitution. To this effect the central committee meeting shall proceed as scheduled and announced,” Mr Lungu said.
