Singhs clash in national rally

RALLY driver Muna Singh says he will be looking forward to cause an upset to his elder brother Jassy who is currently topping the national rally championship in the 243kilometres race slated for Barn Motel in Chongwe.

The two-day race will feature the top three racers including third-placed Geoffrey Chulu who has 121 points from Jassy and Muna who have 137 and 124 points respectively.

Muna, who is currently placed second, said after the weekend national rally he would be looking forward to entering the 2015 Africa Rally Championship (ARC).

The 21-year-old driver, said although the 13 points difference with his brother was quite big, his performance had tremendously improved in the recent past.

“I have not yet tested my car (Subaru N10) it just came in the country when I was out of the country for school. It has been with my brother while I was at school,” he said.

Muna was speaking in Lusaka yesterday after the Zambia Motor Sport Association unveiled Barn Motel as the main sponsors for the final round of the national rally which will flag off tomorrow at Lusaka Motor Club.

Association president Sam Ching’ambu said the drivers were excited to be sponsored by Barn Motel.

“Barn Motel has been with us for the past seven years when we only had four drivers,” he said. “Zambian drivers have a bright future because 16 of them are below 25 years old,” he said.

Barn Motel managing director, Mwamba Mulenga, presented a K50, 000 cash sponsorship to the motor sport association.

“We shall also accommodate the drivers, provide the meals, drinks and other services to be extended to ZMSA and competitors during the rally,” he said.

Mulenga said Barn Motel had been sponsoring the rally for the past seven years.
