EIGHTEEN people in Chienge in Luapula Province have been arrested for trafficking in cannabis weighing 43.714 kilogrammes, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has revealed.
DEC public relations officer, Theresa Katongo, confirmed this yesterday.
She said those arrested included three juveniles and a 65-year-old woman.
Ms Katongo said the culprits were arrested on November 28, 2014, in Chienge between 01: 00 hours and 06: 00 hours after DEC officers at the Nchelenge office invaded the border district.
She said 13.981 kilo grammes of seed and 29.733 kilograms of cannabis were confiscated by the officers during the operations.
Ms. Katongo congratulated the DEC officers at the Nchelenge office for their relentless efforts to put a stop to drug trafficking.
She warned members of the public to obey the law or face persecution
