TOURISM and Arts minister Jean Kapata has charged that Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo was never a founder member of the Patriotic Front (PF) and therefore should be the last person to demand that the ruling party’s president Edgar Lungu should resign from the party.
Ms Kapata said it was shocking that Ms Masebo “who has been jumping from one political party to another” could ask Mr. Lungu to leave the ruling party when he was among the founding members.
Ms Kapata said unlike Ms Masebo, Mr Lungu had only belonged to one political party in his life and had been a loyal and faithful member of the PF from 2001.
She recalled that Ms Masebo was originally a member of the MMD together with her colleague, former Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba before defecting to the Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) where they attempted to overthrow the party president Benjamin Yorum Mwila.
Ms Kapata said after failing to take over ZRP, Ms Masebo returned to MMD during the reign of Levy Mwanawasa and that she (Masebo) caused a lot of confusion in the former ruling party when Rupiah Banda became president.
She recalled that just before the 2011 general elections, Ms Masebo “jumped” to PF because she knew that the party’s chances of forming government had become bright.
“How can Ms Msebo who has been jumping from one political party to another ask PF president Edgar Lungu to leave the party?
Mr Lungu, unlike Madam Masebo has only been a member of one political party in his life and that is the PF. Masebo must be ashamed of herself but I am not surprised because that is what desperation can do to selfish individuals,” Ms Kapata said.
Meanwhile, Paradius Sakala has said the country is on the brink of sliding into civil war because of Dr Scott’s divisive attitude in the manner he has been presiding over national affairs as Acting President.
Mr Sakala said it had become clear that Dr Scott was serving the interests of the infamous cartel that almost hijacked State power while President Michael Sata was still alive.
He has appealed to the police and other law enforcement agencies to closely monitor the activities of Dr Scott because his actions since the death of President Sata had become inimical to the welfare and interest of the country.
Mr Sakala said Dr Scott had become a security risk and that Cabinet should take a bold step and stop the Acting President from plunging the country into political chaos and turmoil by immediately passing a resolution to revoke his appointment.
He told the Daily Nation that Dr Scott had with impunity ignored both the constitutions of the Patriotic Front (PF) and the nation and should not be allowed to continue presiding over the country’s affairs.
Mr Sakala said the international community was wondering what was happening in the country and that the country’s democracy was under threat because of the despotic style of governance Dr Scott had adopted in running the country.
“As a Patriotic Front zealot and a Zambian, I am worried that the country is on the brink of sliding into civil war because of one man in the name of Guy Scott who has been given a rare privilege of being Acting President.
“We are in a very delicate political situation and Cabinet must save this country from breaking apart by immediately revoking the appointment of Dr Scott as Acting President. He has brought shame to the Office of President and our democracy is under serious threat because Dr Scott has suddenly become a despot and is not listening to anyone nor respecting the law.
“Dr Scott has become an enemy of Zambians,” Mr Sakala said.
