Exposed ATMs irk customers

Commercial banks must put up proper shelters around their ATMs to protect customers during the rainy season.

Some customers have complained that most ATMs were located at open places which exposed customers to harsh weather conditions especially during heavy downpours.

George Sakala of Kamwala South complained that some machines were located in open corridors without any form of shelter to protect customers from the rain.

“The FNB ATM at Matero’s Oddy’s service station is literally on the road and poorly sheltered, resulting in customers getting soaked whenever it rained.

‘‘Even the Barclays Bank ATM at North-End branch does not provide its customers with any kind of shelter as they used the service,” he said.

Mr Sakala said it was unfortunate that banks had neglected to provide shelter at some ATM machines.

He said all ATMs should have big enough shelter to protect customers from being soaked as they withdrew money or used the machine for other services.

Mr Sakala commended some banks who have constructed proper shelters for the ATMs among them the Stanbic Bank, Investrust and Stanchart machines. He said other institutions should emulate their colleagues and provide all- weather shelter for their customers depending on the time of the year.
