Nkwazi coach Dabid Chilufya has refused to be intimidated by Zanaco’s fine form this season and says there will be nothing new when the police service-sponsored outfit plays the league leaders today.
Chilufya told the Daily Nation yesterday that he understood the pressure that came with playing a top team with an unprecedented winning streak, but warned that his team will be no push-overs this afternoon.
He said his players were ready for the challenge because they also had a point to prove against the bankers and that they had trained well to get a positive result.
“We are ready for the game against Zanaco and, not to take anything away from Zanaco, it is a big team which is performing very well but we are ready to play them tomorrow (today) and we shall not be intimidated by their record because we are also playing to win the match. We have adequately prepared for this match and we are going to play according to how we have prepared,” Chilufya said.
He explained that the knocks that some players in the squad had sustained will not affect the overall performance of the players.
“Some players have picked a few knocks here and there but that will not overshadow our performance and we aim to win the game,” he said.
Should Zanaco manage to collect maximum points at Nkwazi, then they will increase their tally to 30 points as they cement their grip at the summit of the MTN/FAZ league, while any slip-ups will allow Zesco United to narrow the gap should they beat tricky Power Dynamos.
Going into today’s game, Zanaco leads the standings on 27 points while their closest rivals Zesco United have 20 points, while third placed Nkwazi have 19. This means that if Power Dynamos beat Zesco United and Nkwazi beats Zanaco, then Nkwazi will overtake Zesco.
