CENTRAL province permanent secretary Edwidge Mutale has directed the provincial education office in Central Province to conduct a snap survey and come up with statistics following the high levels of teenage pregnancy which have hit 860 this year.
Ms. Mutale, who expressed worry at the high rate of teenage pregnancies said the development had hindered many young girls from progressing in their education. She was worried that Chibombo district had suddenly shot from 0 to 860 pregnancies and directed authorities to work with office of the provincial child welfare officer.
“Chibombo, how come you have shot from 0 to 860 and yet remain happy about that? The cases have been increasing in Chisamba and all other districts and 860 is just really a very high number. I urge you to work with the provincial child welfare officer whose office is here in Kabwe,” said Ms. Mutale during a provincial development coordinating committee meeting last week.
Ms. Mutale, who is also a gender activist also called on authorities to educate the parents and their girl children not to abuse the Government’s well intended re-entry policy.
