Dirty wife loses marriage

A MAN told a Local Court in Lusaka that he decided to ditch his wife by writing her a divorce letter because she is dirty.

Mushimbai Simushi, 27, of Lusaka West was testifying in a case in which his wife, Poniso Tapelo, 22, sued him for divorce for writing her a divorce letter.

The two got married in 2009 and have three children.

Tapelo told Senior Court Magistrate Sarah Nyendwa sitting with Magistrate Ackim Phiri at Kanyama Local Court that all was well when they married in Kalabo but things started to change when they came to Lusaka.

She explained that she stopped seeing Simushi’s salary and that he started sleeping at his girlfriend’s place who now has his child.

Tapelo added that the major cause of troubles was Simushi’s girlfriend who led him to write her a divorce letter.

In cross-examination, Tapelo said that Simushi’s employer chased him when he discovered that  he had a girlfriend  and that was how he wrote her a divorce letter.

Asked by the court when Simushi wrote her a divorce letter, Tapelo said that she had forgotten but that  she stayed in the village alone for six months now.

Simushi said that he decided to divorce Tapelo because she is dirty.

He explained that she does not do laundry for him or listen to him.

Simushi added that when Tapelo’s mother visited them in 2013 he told her about the problem in the house but she couldn’t help him instead she told Tapelo to leave him because there were other men in the village who could marry her.

“I wrote her a divorce letter and she went to Mongu. I was sending her money and I thought she would change so that we live together again but I couldn’t follow her because her mother said there are other men who can marry her in the village,” said Simushi.

Passing judgment, Magistrate Nyendwa said that there was no love between the two because Simushi said Tapelo is dirty and Tapelo said Simushi impregnated another woman.

She said that Tapelo went to the village for six months after Simushi wrote her a divorce letter but he did not follow her.

She granted the couple divorce ordering Simushi to compensate Tapelo with K2,000 in monthly installments of K100 and to be paying children maintenance fee of K150 per month. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
