‘‘VINTHU vachinja kuno ku Kasama (things have changed) here in Kasamaand the entire Northen Province has realised that the United Party for National Development (UPND) is the solution to the economic and governance challenges Zambia is going through, Hakainde Hichilema has claimed.
And UPND vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba says the Patriotic Front (PF) should be blamed for the by-election in Kasama Central constituency
Mr Hichilema who is UPND president said Zambians were angry that the Patriotic Front (PF) had failed to deliver on its major promises and were looking to the UPND as a political party that could realise their dreams of a better and brighter economic and political future.
He said the PF would be shocked with the 2016 general elections results because Zambians were united and determined to put the UPND in power after having experimented with the ruling party.
Mr Hichilema told the Daily Nation from Kasama yesterday that the UPND had penetrated the ruling party’s strongholds and that Kasama had completely changed politically because of the defection of Mr Mwamba to the opposition party.
He said he was happy that the people of Northern Province had realised that the UPND was an all-inclusive political party whose desire was to govern the country and improve the lives of the people.
“Vintu vachinja kuno ku Kasama (Things have changed here in Kasama). The people have realised that the PF are delivering nothing and life has become unbearably difficult for the majority poor. We have broken what used to be the PF stronghold of the PF because the ruling party has failed to deliver. There are no more strongholds and the PF could be on its way out of Government. The PF should be preparing to exit as they are not anywhere winning the elections next year,” Mr Hichilema said.
He said the UPND team that included its new vice-president Mwamba had a thunderous welcome in Kasama and that their message was that the next Government should work on the cost of living which he said had become prohibitive to most families.
Mr Hichilema said he was happy that Paramount Chief Chitimukulu allowed him to pay a courtesy call on him at his palace.
“We went to pay a courtesy call on Paramount Chief Chitimukulu who welcomed us well. We have toured the markets to interact with the people here in Kasama and the response is just overwhelming. The PF and President Lungu will be shocked next year,” Mr Hichilema said.
And in an interview, Mr. Mwamba popularly known as GBM blamed the PF for the by-election in Kasama central saying they had always wanted a by-election in Kasama but it would be difficult for them to grab the seat from him because the people of Kasama were behind him.
He said the people of Kasama have been subjected to a premature election before 2016 and it was therefore important for the PF to realise that they would not be voted for because of the continued abuse of the people.
“It is unfortunate that the PF has finally managed to subject the people of Kasama to a premature by-election before 2016. This is a disaster and uncalled for because too much tax payers money will be used instead of taking it to hospitals to buy medicines and other things,” he said.
Mr. Mwamba explained that Zambia was on a crossroad because of the current leadership which he said did not respect the electorate.
“Let’s show them that we are not happy with this group in Government by not voting for the PF again here in Kasama. Let’s show them that we are not going to be used to fight other people’s battles by allowing the PF to impose a candidate in this region,” Mr. Mwamba said.
