Now Livingstone council suspends Mayor

The Livingstone City Council has suspended its Mayor Milford Maambo for 21 days following his alleged involvement in illegal land allocation.

Mr Matambo’s suspension comes after a special full council which was chaired by his deputy Fred Sikazwe.

When mayor Maambo’s issue came up, Livingstone city council public relations officer Emmanuel Sikanyika requested that the media and the general public leave the council chamber.

And during the meeting, a decision was reached collectively by all councilors and management to form an adhoc committee to investigate Mr Maambo in the alleged illegal land allocation.

Mr Maambo was not allowed to attend the council meeting as the matter which led to the special council meeting concerned him.

According to Mr Sikanyika, Mr  Sikazwe chaired the until a resolution to suspended Mr Maambo for 21 days was reached.

And on Friday UPND Livingstone district executive held a meeting following an allegation that Mr Maambo who was until then a constituency chairman was allegedly involved in illegal land allocation.

It was alleged that Mr Maambo instructed the town clerk Chanda Chabala to sign 18 land offers which he got himself .

Efforts to get a comment from Mr Maambo proved futile by press time as he has been unwilling to talk to the media since the scam was unearthed.

  1. It is surprising that I have been quoted in this story that I as Public Relations Manager for Livingstone City Council was interviewed by a Daily Nation reporter regarding the current plots allegations at my institution.
There was no such engagement whatsoever and the issues attributed to me are not only malicious but unethical and unfair. The reporter should have mentioned the actual source of the news item.
Yesterday, I only held a news briefing once and all the media houses in Livingstone. The version they have carried is the correct one except the Daily nation whose reporter was not even there.
We are requesting our legal Counsel to give us advice on this one because it is not the first time Daily nation are fabrication facts and sources about LCC. For example, the reporter claims that I asked the media to leave the chamber when I was not even in the Council meeting and it is my Town Clerk who requested the media to leave for a while.
While we believe in openness and good corporate governance, falsehoods are not what we expect from our highly valued customer groups like the media.
