PRESISDENT Edgar Lungu is going to be re-elected whether the opposition likes it or not because the Head of State has exhibited exceptional leadership qualities in the manner he has governed the country in the last eight months he has been in State House, Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba has said.
Mr Kalaba said Zambians have all the reasons to vote for President Lungu because the Head of State was the best if Zambia was to continue on its economic expansion trajectory despite the current economic ills.
He said Zambians should not be cheated by the opposition that Zambia would be a paradise if they removed the Patriotic Front (PF) Government because there was a real danger that the new government could reverse the economic development gains the country was recording.
Mr Kalaba said the United Party for National Development (UPND) and its leadership should never be trusted with the mandate to preside over the country’s affairs because the opposition political party did not have the love and agenda for the country.
The minister said this in Bahati constituency in Mansa yesterday and called on Zambians to give President Lungu a mandate to continue with his vision which he spelt out during his state of the nation address at Parliament on Friday.
Mr Kalaba said President Lungu’s desire was to turn Zambia into a hub of infrastructure development and that his presidency was anchored on ensuring that that the current economic challenges Zambians were facing were resolved.
He said UPND president Hakainde Hichilema had never been tested at any level of leadership and could therefore not make a good president for the country.
He said Zambians should not waste their votes on the UPND because the opposition political party had nothing to offer and that it was not surprising that the people had continued rejecting the party ever since it was formed.
“Whether the opposition likes it or not President Lungu will be voted again in the 2016 general elections. President Lungu remains the best alternative for Zambia and we cannot afford to change leadership when the Head of State has just started working. It will be politically risky to vote for the opposition with all the developmental programmes that are currently taking place. When I was campaigning in 2011, you said I would not bring development and now we are tarring the Mansa-Kabunda road because of the efforts of President Lungu,” Mr Kalaba said.
Mr Kalaba told the people in his constituency to register as voters, stating that the Patriotic Front would only remain in Government if the people voted for the party.
“The devil you know is better than the angel you do not know and we have President Lungu who is humble and has shown love for this country and that is why in all his messages, he has been preaching peace, unity and reconciliation,” Mr Kalaba said.
The ministry was in his constituency to commission the tarring of the Mansa-Kabunda road and donated laptops to Kabunda Girls Secondary School and Kapanda Primary School.
