ZESCO United coach George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina says his lads struggled to play on the Edwin Imboela Stadium pitch during the Week 24 Super Division rescheduled match on Wednesday in which they drew 1-1 with Nkwazi.
Lwandamina said his boys are not used to playing on such a pitch and therefore had difficulties adapting. “Definitely we can struggle playing on a field like this one. This is not the kind of ground we are used to. You don’t expect to play good football on such a ground. Unfortunately that’s what we have in Zambia,” he said.
He however saluted his boys for fighting to the end, which he said was good for the team.
“They played well. We controlled proceedings in the first half but in the second half, that’s where we lost it in the first 20 minutes but still managed to reorganize ourselves and fought to the last whistle,” he said
Lwandamina said he will battle for leadership of the league till the last game and that is when he will declare that they have won the title.
Nkwazi coach Elijah Chikwanda said it was a good game but the boys lost concentration in the last five minutes.
“The boys really pushed hard but unfortunately lost concentration at the end. Zesco is a tough opponent but I am happy we picked a point,” he said.
Zesco is leading the group on 56 points while Nkwazi is sixth on 36.
