A HARD beer drinking housewife admitted in a Lusaka local court that she slept out on three occasions after going on a pub crawl.
Enelesi Tembo, 30, of Chelstone extension was testifying in a case in which her husband, Simon Phiri, 32, garden boy of the same compound sued her for divorce.
The two got married in 2002 and have two children. Dowry was not paid.
Phiri told Senior Court Magistrate Pauline Newa sitting with Magistrate Lewis Mumba at Matero Local Court that he stayed well in his marriage just for a year.
He explained that in 2003 Tembo started drinking beer and lost respect for him because she could insult him in the public and started spending nights out.
Phiri told the court that on August 12, Tembo had a miscarriage and slept out of the matrimonial home on four occasions on account of beer drinking.
“I want to divorce Tembo because I fear we mi9ght kill each other,” said Phiri.
In cross-examination, Phiri said that he differed with Tembo because of beer and denied having a girlfriend.
In defence, Tembo said that they were staying well when Phiri was not working but when he got employed in 2010 he started flirting with her best friends.
Tembo further stated that when Phiri left a K20 the other day it pained her and she went to spend a night at her relative’s place, adding that after three days she fought with Phiri’s girlfriend and Phiri locked her outside the house.
Asked by Phiri if she did not drink beer, Tembo said that she drunk when she was pregnant but has since stopped
In submission Tembo said that she did not want divorce because children will suffer.
Magistrate Newa said that the court cannot talk of marriage because dowry was not paid and dismissed the case.
