2016 is mine-Lungu

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says he is confident that Zambians are going to give him the new mandate in the 2016 general elections.

He said those who were imagining and fantasizing that the Patriotic Front (PF) was going to lose the 2016 general elections should dream on.

President Lungu predicted that the ruling party would continue to govern Zambia for a long time because as Head of State, he desired to transform the political landscape of the country.

He said the PF was going to remain in power for a long time and he was confident that he was going to remain with the presidency next year but was not sure whether it would be same with all his Members of Parliament or just about half of them.

Speaking when he swore in Greyford Monde as Fisheries and Livestock Minister, Stephen Kampyongo as Local Government and Housing Minister, Kapembawa Simbao as Transport and Communications Minister and Lawrence Sichalwe as deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice-Pres

ident, President Lungu said people’s power was going to decide who among his  MPs were going to be readopted.

President Lungu said politicians who thought had the monopoly of wisdom that they would never become presidents because Zambians were looking for leaders who could listen and learn from them without being looked down upon.

The Head of State revealed that there were some people within the ruling party aspiring to be parliamentarians and who were bribing people so that they could get adopted for the 2016 general elections.

President Lungu has advised the ministers and party officials to listen to people because only then would they be able to know whether the electorate were happy with them and the Government or not.

“I wish to congratulate you on your appointments and the only thing that I can say is that there are people who are imagining that we are leaving power next year,

“We are around and we are here for a long time because we want to transform the political landscape of our country. I can confidently tell you that I am coming back perhaps with all of you or may be half of you. It is the people that will determine,” President Lungu said. The President said aspiring candidates who had adopted nocturnal attitudes and were going round trying to buy adoption certificates for the 2016 general elections were wasting their time because power was in the hands of the people.

The President said some people were accusing him of having changed the trajectory in the governance of Zambia but he said political dynamics of the principles of governance and politics could not remain the same all the times.

He said he was listening to the opposition and to ordinary citizens because he wanted to govern the country according to the desires of the people and not to the whims of a selected group of individuals.

President Lungu said he was listening to the voices of the people and that the appointments he was making in his Government were a reflection of the will of citizens.

“If we promised people and have failed to honour, do not be shy to say sorry.

I listen to people and when I do, some think I am weak, that is a sign of strength. So for me, 2016, I am back and I do not know if you are coming back with me,” President Lungu said.
