MMD has no working pact with PF – official

Opposition MMD has no working relationship with the PF Government ahead of 2016 general elections, says MMD Copperbelt Province information and publicity secretary Peter Phiri.

He has therefore appealed to PF deputy chairperson for media and publicity Sunday Chanda to stop misleading the people of Zambia that there still existed a working relationship between his party and PF.

In an interview yesterday, Mr. Phiri said Mr. Chanda shouldnot comment on issues concerning the former ruling party because he was not a member of the MMD.

“Mr. Chanda is claiming that the MMD still has a working relationship with PF when the truth is that our former president Rupiah Banda is the one they are working with and not the MMD,” Mr. Phiri said.

He said it was painful that the PF had publicly abused MMD president Nevers Mumba whom they had described as ‘‘nothing in Zambian politics’’.

But Mr. Chanda said he would not waste time responding to Mr. Phiri because it was clear that the PF had attracted more opposition members to support the general agenda of developing the nation which President Edgar Lungu was spearheading across Zambia.

And MMD national youth treasurer Lengwe Bwalya has appealed to Zambians not to listen to suspended national youth treasurer Bowman Lusambo because he was not the party spokesperson.

“We wish to inform the public that Bowman Lusambo, our former national youth secretary, is an impostor purporting to speak on behalf of MMD youths.

‘‘Lusambo has been issuing statements left, right and centre, pretending to speak on behalf of MMD youths and attempting to deceive the public into believing that he represents the MMD when in fact he is just a lone voice speaking words put in his mouth by the Patriotic Front,” he said.

Mr. Lengwe said MMD youths have never sat and agreed to constantly praise the PF in the manner Mr. Lusambo was doing.

He accused Mr. Lusambo of betraying party president Dr. Mumba, saying he had been trying to coerce some MMD officials to support the PF government and its policies on the Copperbelt and other parts of the country.

“It is regrettable that Lusambo has betrayed the MMD and his president Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba. As reported in the media, he attempted to turn our councillors and get them to support the PF candidate in the Solwezi West by-election.

‘‘He does not even have any shame in betraying his own party and then using it to further his doomed political aspirations,” he said.
