Mbesuma does it again!

ZAMBIA’s prolific forward Collins Mbesuma has again been named the Premier Soccer League (PSL) player of the month for October following the burly striker’s impressive form after joining Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The rise to fame by Mpumalanga Black Aces this season has been largely attributed to Mbesuma, who has rattled the net five times in nine games.

He now sits in joint-top goal scorers’ chart with Free State Stars striker Andrea Fileccia.

The judges deliberated on a number of other candidates in this category but felt that the Zambian striker has done enough to deserve the award.

Mbesuma has predicted a good season ahead for his team which is currently in the top four brackets in the Absa premier league and were only three points below league leaders platinum stars that have 18 points after nine games played this season.

“I think we are going to have a good season. We want to see ourselves among the top four,” Mbesuma said.

Mbesuma’s resurgence should be good news to Zambia national soccer team  trainer George Lwandamina who was desperately looking for a win against Sudan in the 2018 Russia World Cup qualifier next week.

Mbesuma played an integral role in Zambia’s 2-1 thumping of Kenya in a Group E 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers match played at the Nyayo national stadium on 6th September in which he provided an assist for Winstone Kalengo before sealing the Chipolopolo’s win with a thunderbolt at the hour mark.

Lwandamina will bank on the experience of Mbesuma, Captain Rainford Kalaba and towering defence kingpin Stophilla Sunzu who have had their own share of success at their clubs.

Kalaba edged TP Mazembe closer to the CAF finals when he scored against USM Alger in his team’s 2-1 win in the first leg of the 2015 CAF Champions League final on Saturday.

Kalaba however received marching orders at the end of the first half after he was shown a red card, forcing his team to play the rest of the game with 10 men.

Sunzu on Wednesday night last week also scored his first competitive goal for Lille. The Zambia defender scored agoal in Lille’s 2-1 victory over Troyes in the last 16 of the French Ligue Cup. He equalised for his team in the 49th minute after Troyes had taken a 1-0 lead into the break.

The defender, who is on a season-long loan move from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, played the full 90 minutes for Lille in that Ligue Cup game.
