DETERMINED Elizabeth Nsombo yesterday won the Women’s category of the 11 kilometres Lusaka Duathlon tournament clocking 34.4 minutes.
Nsombo beat two other competitors with a splendid finish much to the amusement of the male counterparts.
The second edition of Duathlon held at Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC), a sport that involved running and cycling saw Gladys Mulenga finish second with a time of 36 minutes while Esther Nyirenda was third at 36.35 minutes.
Nsombo said she was happy that her hard work had produced results.
“I am happy that I won. I started this sport in 2005 and today this is the fruit of my hard work. This is my passion and will never give up. My target is to compete at an international level,” she said
In the men’s category, Kelvin Kapya showcased brilliant skills clocking 22 minutes to finish as champion.
The second position was scooped by Friday Nyambe with 22.12 minutes while third winner Brian Malambo clocked 22:15 minutes.
OYDC coordinator John Zimba thanked the corporate world for assisting the centre hosts the event that attracted 58 athletes.
Zimba said the centre was looking forward to seeing more involvement of the corporate world to the sport next year.
He advised the athletes to stay focused and assured them of more competitive events.
“This is just the starting point. I urge you all to continue training hard. Next year will be bigger and better, “he said.
