STRIKER Collins Mbesuma on Saturday night scored the winning goal for Mpumalanga Black Aces against Ajax Cape Town to retain second position on the Absa Premiership table.
The Chipolopolo striker found the back of the net in the 42 nd minute to put his side back to second position in a match played at Mbombela Stadium.
Both teams missed many chances but Mbesuma’s strike was enough to put Mpumalanga in contention for a title.
Mbesuma is now joint top scorer with Daine Klate of Bidvest Wits on seven goals.
Mpumalanga is two points behind leaders Bidvest Wits.
Meanwhile, Israeli based Evans Kangwa registered his name on the score sheet after he scored the winning goal for his side Hapoel Ra’nana in a tightly contested match against Bnei Sakhnin.
The 23 year old scored in the 73rd minute to move into third position on the top scorers chart in the Israeli top league.
Former Chipolopolo coach Patrick Phiri said the good performance of the players at their respective clubs was an indicator that the national team was solid. “I believe good performance begins at club level. When players are doing well at club level, it’s no doubt that the national team will register good results. I am impressed with Mbesuma’s consistency. It’s good that Evans is also finding his grip. He is a good striker and just needs to work harder and maintain consistency,” he said.
