Zanaco at the top

By Sports Reporter

SENSATIONAL Zanaco yesterday moved to the summit of the Super Division dislodging Nkana when they walloped Nkwazi 3-0 in a Week 15 match played at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

But the bankers’ stay at the top of the log with 28 points may only last for hours if second placed Nkana manages to overcome reigning champions Zesco in an expected thriller today at Kitwe’s Nkana Stadium.

The first half was evenly contested with Zanaco failing to break what seemed to be Nkwazi strong defence, hence ending on a stand-off.

But the bankers returned fully flagged showing urgency on target with Fashion Sakala shooting wide the net in the 49th minute.

However, Sakala made up for the mishap and opened the scoreboard in the 53rd minute to put Zanaco in the lead. Saith Sakala added the second goal in the 73rd minute before captain Ziyo Tembo sealed it off with a third goal in the 86th minute for the bankers to command the log.

At Kitwe’s Arthur Davis Stadium, Power Dynamos moved to third position on 24 points after beating Kabwe Warriors 2-1. Power outplayed the railways men but produced several blunt shots on target.

Martin Phiri put Power in the lead after 28 minutes of play when he tapped in a Larry Bwalya cross.

But hard working Josephat Kasusu equalised for Warriors in the 37 the minute.

In second half, Warriors were out classed with Power’s Julius Situmbeko and Fwayo Tembo producing brilliant dribbling skills.

Power literally camped in Warriors half and saw Francis Kasonde make it 2-1 for the Kitwe giants.

Meanwhile, at Lusaka’s Sunset Stadium Lusaka Dynamos put up a disappointing show losing 2-0 to visiting Forest Rangers.

Goals from Nawa Nawa and Ronald Chibwe were enough to give the Patrick Phiri tutored side the much needed three points to remain in contention for the title.

Elsewhere, log tail enders Mufulira Blackpool suffered the ninth defeat this season to Lusaka Tigers in a match that ended 2-0 at Lusaka’s Independence Stadium. Francis Chongo and Martin Bwalya found the back of the net for Tigers.

Nchanga Rangers beat ailing Green Eagles 1-0 while the match between Mufulira Wanderers and Napsa Stars ended on a barren draw.

Today Nkana hosts Zesco while Green Buffaloes will be home at Independence Stadium against Red Arrows.
