OPPOSITION UPND Nkana constituency parliamentary candidate Divo Katete says if elected Member of Parliament (MP) on August 11, he will propose that the tuberculosis (TB) clinic in Buchi township is removed from where it is to somewhere else.
Mr Katete claimed in an interview that TB being an airborne disease was being spread to the residents of the township through the location of the clinic.
He said it was important that the TB clinic was moved from where it is to somewhere else to stop the risk of people catching the disease.
He said in an in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that as Nkana MP, he would ensure that issues of health and education were given top priority because a healthy and educated human resource was important for national development.
“Among the issues which I will give priority to if elected MP will include health and education because if we have an educated and health nation, then we will set the stage for national development.
“One of the issues I want to deal with is the removal of that TB clinic from Buchi to somewhere else because TB being an airborne disease it can be easily spread to the residents of the township,” he said.
And Mr Katete has joined his FDD counterpart Ernest Mulebi in promising to give back land to Mindolo North squatters whose illegal structures on Phoenix Materials land were demolished in 2014.
Mr Katete, who is former Kitwe mayor, said once elected Nkana constituency MP on August 11, he would engage Phoenix Materials managing director Phesto Musonda on the possibility of giving back the land to the squatters.
He said all the land which belonged to Phoenix Materials and owned by Mr Musonda would be given back to the squatters and that the company would be given alternative land.
