THE petition being circulated on social media and other sections of the media to impeach Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga is fake and a ploy by some disgruntled football administrators, youth football administrator Noel Kasonde has charged.
Recently, Max Chanda, who claimed to be an official of Kabwe United Football Club, revealed that there was a petition to impeach Kamanga by some affiliates, claiming that there were misunderstandings in the soccer mother body.
But in an interview with the Daily Nation in Kabwe, Kasonde challenged Chanda to name the FAZ affiliates calling for Kamanga’s removal.
Kasonde also said that Chanda was neither an official of Kabwe United nor an affiliate of FAZ.
“These are works of disgruntled people living with a Kalusha hangover and have failed to come to terms with the reality of change that FAZ is now under the capable and transparent hands of Kamanga.
‘‘Let him produce a list of bona fide members of FAZ who want Kamanga red-carded. He isn’t even an official of Kabwe United Football Club,” said Kasonde.
Efforts to get a comment from Chanda failed as his mobile phone was unreachable, but reacting to the impeachment calls, Kamanga said as far as he was concerned he was the duly elected FAZ chief and challenged those moving the petition to follow procedure.
“That is hearsay and being learnt from social media and I don’t even know the people behind it. If there are people who are displeased there are right channels to be followed and I urge them to do that because we don’t want to be vindictive but remain focused on improving football,” he said.
The FAZ president also said that his administration was still committed to improve the most popular sport as promised.
He called for level-headedness among stakeholders and added that Zambia’s football would once again be raised to its high standards.
Early this year, Kamanga defeated soccer icon Kalusha Bwalya, whose administration was marred with corruption allegations, leading to the resignations of Bwalya’s key associates.
