THE opposition UPND parliamentary candidate in Mufulira’s Kantanshi constituency Catherine Chipilipili has urged the youths in the constituency never to give up in life despite facing challenges of unemployment among them.
Mrs Chipilipili said the youths were the critical economic drivers of the nation and once elected as MP, she would work hard to ensure youths were employed because the UPND had a master plan of creating jobs, especially in the mining sector which she claimed had been mismanaged by the Patriotic Front (PF).
She said she was saddened with the high levels of unemployment in the constituency among the young people despite having attained tertiary qualifications from various higher learning institutions.
She said the youths needed to be empowered through life skills if they were to effectively participate in the economic growth of the country.
“Employment is not a privilege but a right of every human being despite the person’s political affiliation. It is their fundamental right and the youths should be given job opportunities as long as they are qualified,” said Mrs Chipilipili.
Mrs Chipilipili said the youths were in the majority in her constituency and most of them were jobless because of the high levels of unemployment both in the private sector and Government.
She said the UPND had excellent education and employment policies for the young people of Kantanshi to make them relevant to society.
She stated that the youths who did not have academic qualifications would be given a chance to start school again because education was the best equaliser.
She said if elected, she would ensure that she delivered all her promises to the electorate because she was a woman of her words.
Mrs Chipilipili said she was not just making empty promises but would work hard to live to the expectations of the people in her constituency.
“I am appealing to the young people not to shun this year’s general elections because their future belongs in their vote,” she said.
