The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced that ballot papers for the August 11, 2016 General Elections and Referendum printed by Al Ghurair Printing Plant in Dubai, United Arab Emirates will arrive in Zambia at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport this afternoon.
ECZ public relations manager Crispin Akufuna told a press briefing yesterday that the printing process was witnessed by Zambian stakeholders who included the clergy, members of civil, society, representatives of participating political parties, Zambia Police, Anti-Corruption Commission and the Drug Enforcement Commission.
Mr Akufuna said participating political parties, CSOs and the media had been invited to witness the arrival of ballot papers in Lusaka, while stakeholders in Dubai would witness the departure of ballot papers from Dubai to Lusaka.
“The ballot papers are scheduled to arrive in Lusaka tomorrow, Thursday July 28, 2016 as follows: first consignments of ballot papers will depart Dubai 09:15hours and arrive in Lusaka the same day at 14:15hours.
“The second consignment of ballot papers will depart Dubai at 13:25 hours and arrive in Lusaka on the same day at 18:25 hours,” Mr Akufuna said.
He also took time to announce that during the voting process on August 11, 201, indelible ink shall be used to mark the right thumb nail of the voter.
Mr Akufuna encouraged female voters to remove nail polish and artificial nails for the purpose of voting.
“In cases where a female voter insists on wearing nail polish or artificial nails, the voters’ thumb shall be marked on the cuticle (the skin at the base of the thumb nail) and the tip of the thumb nail,” he said.
